Our team is here to go step by step to simplify the process of choosing your ideal custom drapery hardware based on your interior design.

Types of Custom Drapery Hardware

Our window fashion experts are here to share the most common types of custom drapery hardware and their benefits so that you can find the right style for your home:

Curtain Rods

At the foundation, curtain rods hold everything together. They come in various styles, colors, and materials. You'll find decorative, horizontal rods in metal, wood, and acrylic. Metal gives clean, modern lines, while wood creates a traditional feel.

Chunky rods command attention in spacious rooms, but you'll want something more delicate for smaller windows and lightweight fabrics. If you'd rather pull a cord than wrestle with heavy drapes, traverse rods might be your best friend. This option features a built-in track with small carriers that move along the rod when you pull a cord or push a wand. You can also open and close the window treatments without ever touching the fabric.

Mounting Hardware and Brackets

Brackets are the hardware pieces that attach to your wall or ceiling and hold the rod in place. Standard brackets attach to the wall, positioning the drapery hardware at your desired height and distance from the window frame. Ceiling-mounted versions create dramatic vertical lines that make rooms appear taller, an effective technique for spaces with lower ceilings.

Extending brackets several inches beyond the window frame allows draperies to stack completely off the glass, enhancing natural light and creating the impression of larger windows. This clever adjustment works pure window magic.

The mounting hardware, like screws, anchors, and fasteners, also deserves your attention. Heavy draperies require wall anchors for the combined weight of your rod, brackets, and fabric. Toggle bolts are best suited for drywall, while wood screws offer the most secure hold when mounted directly into studs.

Finials and Endcaps

Finials are decorative caps at the ends of curtain rods, ranging from simple spheres and cylinders to elaborate scrolls and leaf designs. The trick is choosing ones that complement your custom drapery, doorknobs, light fixtures, and cabinet hardware. Your whole room feels pulled together when these details speak the same language.

The finishes matter just as much as the shape. Brushed nickel and bronze suit modern or industrial spaces, while polished brass and crystal finials have traditional or eclectic elegance. Matte black is always in style because it plays well with just about any color scheme.

Holdbacks and Tiebacks

Holdbacks are those curved hooks that attach to your wall and sweep your curtains to the side. Mount them partway up your window, and your fabric will fall in natural, graceful folds.

Tiebacks serve a similar purpose but use fabric straps, cords, or decorative ropes to cinch drapes back, creating a softer look that pairs beautifully with flowing materials.
